Backpocket gives you granular visibility control at two levels — your space and individual saves. This is a key differentiator from other bookmark managers that only offer collection-level visibility.

Two levels of visibility

Space visibility

Your public space itself can be:
SettingEffect
PublicYour space is accessible at yourslug.backpocket.my
PrivateYour space URL returns a private page — nobody can browse it
Toggle space visibility from SettingsPublic Space.

Save visibility

Each individual save has its own visibility:
SettingEffect
PublicAppears on your public space (if space is also public)
PrivateNever appears on your public space — only visible to you
A save must be public AND your space must be public for it to appear to visitors. If either is private, the save stays hidden.

How it differs from other services

Most bookmark managers (like Raindrop.io) only support collection-level visibility. This means if you make a collection public, every bookmark in it becomes public. There’s no way to share some links from a collection while keeping others private. Backpocket’s per-save approach gives you finer control:
ScenarioBackpocketOthers
Share 5 of 20 saves in a collection✅ Mark 5 as public❌ Must create a separate collection
Mix public and private in same collection✅ Each save controls its own visibility❌ Not possible
Quickly unpublish a single save✅ Toggle the save’s visibility❌ Remove from public collection

Default visibility

You can set a default visibility for new saves:
  • Private (default) — New saves are private unless you explicitly make them public
  • Public — New saves are public by default
Configure this in SettingsPreferences on web, or SettingsGeneral on the extension.
If you use your public space as a reading log or link blog, setting the default to “public” saves you from toggling each save individually.

Bulk visibility changes

On the web app, you can change visibility for multiple saves at once:
  1. Select multiple saves using checkboxes
  2. Click the Visibility bulk action
  3. Choose Public or Private
