What we don’t do
No Tracking
No analytics trackers, no pixel tracking, no behavioral profiling.
No Ads
No advertisements anywhere in the product. Your data is never sold.
No Social Features
No followers, no feeds, no sharing pressure. Backpocket is personal by design.
No Third-Party Data Sharing
Your saves, notes, and browsing habits are never shared with third parties.
Authentication
Backpocket uses Clerk for authentication:- Secure JWT tokens — Industry-standard authentication
- Social login — Sign in with Google, Apple, or email
- No password storage — Clerk handles credential security
- Session management — Automatic token refresh and secure session handling
Data storage
| Data | Where it’s stored |
|---|---|
| Account data | Clerk (authentication provider) |
| Saves, tags, collections | Convex (real-time database) |
| Snapshots | Convex File Storage |
| Offline cache | Local device (SQLite, mobile only) |
Public space privacy
When you make saves public on your public space:- Only saves you explicitly mark as public are visible
- Your private saves are never exposed
- Visit counting is a simple counter — not an analytics suite
- No visitor tracking or cookies on public pages
You control exactly what appears publicly. The default visibility is private, so nothing is shared unless you choose to share it.
Browser extension permissions
The Chrome extension requests minimal permissions:| Permission | Why |
|---|---|
| activeTab | Read the current tab’s URL and title when you click the icon |
| storage | Store your settings and authentication token locally |
| contextMenus | Add “Save to Backpocket” to the right-click menu |

- Access to read page content on all sites
- Background tracking or monitoring
